"... The gap [between bridges] has been covered by ferries such as this since the 1935 storm swept away much of the Overseas railroad. The 32.5 miles of highway is being construted at a cost of $3,600,000 to link the mainland again with the southernmost city in the United States. October 5, 1937." -- original caption.
