Biographical Note

Horticulturalists, employed by the U.S.D.A. Specialized in citrus research. Founded the Eustis experiment station, and worked together in Florida, 1892-1897. In 1912 Webber moved to California, where he continued his citrus research until 1936. Beginning in 1898, Swindle traveled throughout the world, introduced many new crop plants to the U.S., and continued his work in California and Arizona. In 1941 he retired from the U.S.D.A. and became a consultant in tropical botany at the University of Miami.

Scope and Contents

Views of natural areas at Key Largo, Biscayne Canal, Linton, Stranahan Camp (Ft. Lauderdale), Alligator Creek (near Punta Gorda), Miami, Cutler, Key West, Coconut Grove, and Everglades. Includes natural areas, reclamation of land, and Tropical Laboratory (possibly the Dade County Agricultural Experiment Station).

Up to four photographs are mounted on heavy album paper. Beneath each photograph the photographers attached a photo number and caption, which are listed in the container list.
