Abstract: Manuscript maps, surveys and drawings of various properties in Miami and the Florida Keys. The bulk are maps and surveys of the Florida Keys made for the Florida East Coast Railway Oversea Extension construction. The other maps, mostly of the Miami area, include Mary Brickell’s property, the Lawrence estate and other properties along the banks of the Miami River.

Biographical Note

D. D. Rogers (David Dunham) along with his son and partner, C. M. Rogers (Clarence Mord), collaborated in the making of the majority of the maps in this collection. D.D. Rogers established a civil engineering office in Daytona in 1874 and worked on various projects in east Florida before entering into partnership with his son in 1904. From an office they maintained in Miami, the Rogers worked on the surveying, mapping and engineering of the Oversea Extension of the Florida East Coast Railway. They were also involved in the platting of various towns, cities and private properties in South Florida.

 

Scope and Contents

Maps, surveys and drawings of various properties in Miami and the Florida Keys. The bulk of the collection are maps and surveys of the Florida Keys for the Florida East Coast Railway. The other maps are mostly of the Miami area and include Mary Brickell’s property, the Lawrence estate and other properties along the banks of the Miami River.

The majority of the maps are pencil and ink on linen and paper, a few sets are blueprint copies. Many are fragile and need to be handled with care.

Arrangement

Arranged by place name in folders with oversized pieces rolled on archival tubes. Each map is described following the title and date when available and unless otherwise noted are the works of D. D. and C. M. Rogers.
