Miami Shores and North Bay Boat Tour (Optional):
Relax on this leisurely cruise of North Biscayne Bay with the Historical Museum's Dr. Paul George. Glide past the islands that Christo surrounded in his fleeting pink work of art back in 1983. Cross under the Julia Tuttle Causeway and learn its secrets. Hear about the early pioneer settlements along the north end of the Bay, including Lemon City. See the Village of Miami Shores, named after a popular song, from the unique vantage point of the water. Learn about this picturesque city, originally named Arch Creek, which in 1912 had a population of 18 homes, a one room school, a church and small business district. On the way back get a close-up glimpse of the Flagler Memorial Island, with its "four graces," as you weave between the small islands near South Beach. See star-studded Star Island, with its astonishing waterfront mansions, and Palm Island where gangster "Scarface" Al Capone spent his final years fishing in his swimming pool. HMSF members $37, Non-members $42. Advance reservations and payment required. |
