Discovery Days

The Historical Museum offers parents an option for educating and entertaining their children on teacher planning days. Children are invited to spend fun-filled and activity-packed days at the museum. Activities are unique and encourage children to think, imagine, create and have fun.

Cost: HMSF Members $30 per day, Non-members $35 per day.

Sponsor a child today! Give an underprivileged or at-risk youngster an opportunity to attend camp at your museum for FREE. Campers ages 6 to 12 are given the opportunity to be creative, explore new worlds, develop new interests and make new friends. Your sponsorship is tax-deductible. Magic City Memories
February 1
9 am–5 pm (early drop off 8:30 am, late pick-up 5:30 pm)
See the transformation of Miami from a remote outpost to the dynamic metropolis it is today. Participate in a movie about early settlers and the challenging lives they led so many years ago. Includes a tour of nearby Lummus Park, home of two 19th century historic buildings - the Fort Dallas Barracks and the Wagner House.

Conquistadores and Adventurers
March 21
9 am–5 pm (early drop off 8:30 am, late pick-up 5:30 pm)
Travel the high seas and explore the unknown realms of the New World. Sketch some of the remarkable scenery and wildlife of the Americas that so bewildered the European adventurers. Act out the exploits of Hernando De Soto, Ponce de Leon and other early travelers to the land of sunshine.

First Americans
March 28
9 am–5 pm (early drop off 8:30 am, late pick-up 5:30 pm)
Visit the various cultures and ways of life of the Native Americans throughout North America. Create vivid masks popular among natives of the Pacific Coast. Hear traditional music and participate in a performance of the Green Corn Dance, a local annual event held by the local Seminole and Miccosukee Indians.
