Hialeah Park, "Home of the Flamingo" and the Flamingo Stakes, brought society and celebrities to Miami when it opened in 1925. A flamingo pink building feathered by bold bougainvillea, complete with its own flock of flamingos, Hialeah is considered one of the most beautiful race tracks in the country. It is because of her close link to the Hialeah Race Track that Ms. Wilson choose it for her quilt block: five members of her immediate family, including her husband and son, worked for the track from as early as 1953. Her familiarity with the place is reflected in the many symbols and sights that are represented in her block. The Daily Racing Form on the table is made from actual Daily Racing Form fabric.
