The Coliseum
by Constance Ryan

Photo transfer, hand appliqué, machine piecing, embroidery, quilting

The Coliseum in Coral Gables has been bowling lanes, a health club, and an ice skating rink. It was originally built in 1925 as a 7500-seat auditorium. Ms. Ryan chose the Coliseum as the subject for her quilt block because of the building's history, but also because "my husband's grandfather, Stephen Frederick Fulgum, moved his family to the area in the early 1920s to build this and several other buildings." The Coliseum was finally torn down in 1995.
