Baptist Hospital
by Pamela Pampe

Needle-turned and raw-edged appliqué, inked details, 3-D palm leaves, hand-dyed

Kendall developer Arthur Vining Davis owned the land where Baptist Hospital now sits. "When Davis offered the land to the Baptists in the late '50s and early '60s, he already knew that the 'Road to Nowhere' was heading for a boom as the population of Miami grew bigger," writes Ms. Pampe. Baptist has become a world-class medical facility. It has also been the quilter's hospital of choice since she moved here in 1978 and is where her two children were born. In addition to being a quilter, Ms. Pampe is a quilt appraiser certified by the American Quilter's Society.
