“Ever since Hurricane Andrew, I’ve thought of the devastation wrought by that storm to our South Dade area and of the impact it had on individuals, families, homes, property, nature and historic sites,” says Ms. Esplin. “The silver lining is the courage of those who persevered and rebuilt better than ever, like our Cape Florida lighthouse,” which was relit on July 19, 1996.
