Meet Some of Our Fellows
Mr. Dean Klevan
“A sense of history is essential to understanding the present and the future. The Historical Museum is that store of knowledge for South Florida. The Fellows provide the leadership that is needed to insure that this mission is kept intact.”
Ms. Linda Lubitz
“I am a Fellow because I believe it is important to financially support the causes and programs that I believe in. I am a Fellow because I get the opportunity to meet some really great people with similar values and interests. I am a Fellow because someone asked me. I am a Fellow because I want to be able to have a private tour with Paul George or have access to places I otherwise wouldn't or go to a party or event in advance of a Historical Museum exhibit opening.”
Dr. Michael Rosenberg
“Being a Fellow is my way of showing how very proud I am to call Miami my home!”
One of our “transplant” Fellows even joined from overseas:
Mr. Marc Launer
“In 2003, I was in the process of returning to the U.S., after having resided continuously for 25 years in Asia and Australia. I was moving to Florida, where I had never resided, and was concerned about the lack of culture to be found in South Florida. While reading through an edition of Mercator’s World, the magazine for antiquarian map aficionados, I noticed an advertisement for the Miami International Map Fair. Immediately, I contacted my map dealer and asked if he had any complimentary tickets to provide to me for the Map Fair -- he refused! Instead, he urged me to become a member of the [Historical] Museum. Rather than wait until I landed on U.S. ‘terra firma,’ I initiated an email exchange about becoming a member. I think it was Marcia Kanner, the Map Fair Manager, who told me that if I’m a customer of this particular map dealer, I should strongly consider becoming a Fellow of the Museum --I joined the Museum “sight unseen” and instantly became the Fellow from the farthest distance (from Sydney, Australia but now from Fort Lauderdale).
In my opinion, being a Fellow has expedited my transition to living in South Florida, enabled me to develop new and interesting friendships --of course, in the process, I gained a bit of South Florida culture.”
