Alfred Browning Parker built this multi-level house for himself on the
coral ridge in Coconut Grove, overlooking Biscayne Bay. He employed a
system of concrete plates, which were molded from formworks lent by Rufus
Nims. Louvered door panels opened the house to breezes, while the roof
deck was used for family activities and parties. Parker's integration
of local stone and wood into his design, along with his landscaping, created
an organic quality similar to the houses of Frank Lloyd Wright. Parker
won House Beautiful's "Pacesetter" award in 1954 for this celebrated
house.
