Norman Giller and other postwar architects perceived military projects
as a testing ground for new housing plans and types. Giller's Lieutenant's
and Captain's House at the Homestead Air Force Base is an updating of
the Florida vernacular dogtrot house in which the central open area becomes
a carport.
