ENDANGERED SPECIES

illustration

Settlers and writers thought the Florida Panther was a dangerous animal that should be shot on sight. A century later, it had become a "poster animal"--a symbol of the Everglades, but also struggling to survive.

“Attacked by a Vicious Panther.” National Police Gazette, ca. 1895.
